The creative pursuit is not to be undertaken lightly. As Steven Pressfield notes so elegantly, whatever we try to communicate needs to be centered on the content and form of the message, not our own skills or talents.
This is a lesson that I have learned firsthand over the past few years of my life. Beginning my media career working for a church in East Tennessee fresh out of high school, I thought I was king of my world. Then I went to college, and ever since then I have been learning more and more about what I don’t know.
Graduating in May, 2010 from North Greenville University with a B. A. in Media Ministry, I gained experience in the technical aspects of video production, audio reinforcement, and studio management. My concurrent work in lighting design, beginning with a summer internship with Bandit Lites and continuing with contract work with Lifeway Christian Resources and the band Chasen, broadened my knowledge base even further and caused me to step back and truly wonder how all of these fields could ever be truly mastered.
Currently, working at Taylors First Baptist Church, I am now continuing that process, working to explore new and unique ways to effectively and appropriately use media to spread The Word of God to a world that is in need of it.
